Matt Porterfield started trading about ten years ago, mostly in crypto. He went deep enough to use technical indicators to build his own automated crypto trading bot. As U.S. regulation of crypto tightened, he moved his focus to stocks and ETFs, which is where he trades today. Along the way he learned what most beginners learn the hard way: reading a chart properly matters more than any single indicator, and rules beat instinct.
He built Chart Wis to teach that to people starting out, without the shortcuts and promises that fill most trading content online. He is also the author of The Art of Trading, the book at the center of the Chart Wis Trading Education Kit.
How Matt teaches
Every article on the blog follows the same principles. Learn to read what the chart is actually showing before acting on it. Treat every pattern as a clue, never a guarantee. Decide where you are wrong before you decide where to get in. And keep a record of every trade, because your own results will teach you more than anyone else's opinion.
